Over the garden walls of my little village, most folks would not consider my garden to be a garden at all. It is not ordered or organised, the clumps of moss and clover always out number the blades of grass on my lawn, and there isn't a slug pellet to be seen. But my goodness! Is it FULL of life!
There is a difference you know. There really is. You have to be patient, and spend a little time to notice it, because our ordinary 5 basic senses just don't get it! A garden full of colourful flowers just bought from the garden centre, may look pretty, may feel soft to the touch, may even hold a slight scent, but they are not the same. My flowers are joyful, they are in the right place at the right time, they are SO happy to be growing where they are - they are meant to be there. It is different. In my garden there is nothing to do except feel the gifts of gratitude and wonder. I am not driven to change it, alter it, mutilate it - make it yield to my will. It is perfect, just as it is.
What a lesson for life is a garden! If you work with Nature, let her gently show you how she manages all life, she will reward you over and over with an aspect of Life most of us have forgotten. When that sleeping part of you awakens and all the world rushes up to greet you, it is in that moment that you expand so much you burst out laughing with delight!
Do not toil and worry, do not try to change what is already perfection. Be at peace in a garden, and come to know yourself.
