This morning, in the wild weather, I walked down part of the Tarka Trail. This is a 180 mile path that follows the journey of Henry Williamson's much loved otter Tarka, from his story of the same name. Along this stretch of the Trail the way is nothing more than a rough track that drops down into a steeply wooded valley. Little streams and springs leap out on all sides and make wonderful noisy company as the stones give way to a muddier path lower down. It has been a mild winter and long trails of honey suckle hung down across the path, the very first green shoots bursting out of the deadened grey stems. Down at the very bottom the land flattens out, and where the little bridge has been blocked by fallen branches and autumns debris, the stream has found a new way. Now it crosses the path itself and is cutting its way down and down, slicing the trail in half.
I watched the water rushing and tumbling around the stones, creating tartan patterns over the smoother stretches, creases and wrinkles in the rougher parts, and glorious white water as it celebrated over the falls, joining with the heady woodland air in a dance so captivating I could have watched it for hours.
A thought came to me. I saw the way the water made specific shapes as it flowed past each little particle of matter. Each stone, each twig had it's own watery shape defined around it. Is this just like us? We are particles of matter in the ever flowing energy of infinity. The Universe flows endlessly around us, bringing to us everything we need, but because of our unique shape, not everything becomes part of our experience...some things are lost to us. Looking into the stream I wondered what would happen if the twig bends or the stone wears down to a softer shape. The flow would immediately alter to accommodate. The twig will receive a different energy. The stone will have a different place. New things will happen.
What about us? If we alter our internal landscape, if we release the negative held within us, surely the energy flowing around us will alter too. We could begin to experience new things in our lives, we could allow the Love of the Universe to work miracles for us. While we stay stuck with our resentment, shame, fear, guilt etc., we stop that flow, we divert it away so it cannot bring us what we say we want. Make the intention with Love, let it go, yield and allow and it will be there.
Once again, it seems to me Nature has all the answers if we give her time to tell us.
