Out from the East, lines of silent gulls cruised overhead, drifting like ghosts on invisible paths mere mortals cannot hope to tread. Around the house swifts on their final flights of the evening, filled my ears with their air splitting screams, and tiny bats came out to feed on tiny insects, fluttering and swooping as if controlled by strings, tugged by unseen hands.
Across the valley, as the swifts fell silent and the first star emerged, an owl announced the nightwatch.
Gradually the garden began to change. Colours departed as the merging of all things took place with the absence of light. From my seat I watched this gentle exchange of day for night. Yang easily and generously gives over to Yin. It is the perfect relationship, in which both parties have their say, have their time, have their space to be themselves and fully express their uniqueness. No clinging on and wanting more, just a peaceful letting go, and a flow one into the other.
Through my eyes I watch the lines appear, the pixels that break up the scene into a perfect work of art, the swirling shapes and forms that move and vanish and reappear again. It is easier to see these things at dusk. Somehow the filters disappear once the strength and power of daylight recedes. This is the time for subtleties and other worlds. Now is when the mind can still, and if you allow it, magic to enter.
Darker now, and over my head the stars are watching. Tiny pieces of space junk scoot along on a South/North trajectory. Two, three, four then five - and then two more coming from the West. I gaze and wonder – what are they? How did they come to be up there? Tiny satellites, left to travel the lonely years until one day they fall too close and die…
Around me I can feel the presence. I can see the energy and I can feel it - that same life energy in all things - resonating in my own body. It is entirely possible to focus on this resonance, and expand into the lines and structures, grids and webs around us, because that is what we are, and that is what the entire Universe really is. We can sail on these tides that have no beach to halt their wanderings… We can flow, as we always have and always will, when we hush the thoughts that keep us anchored. Before we give up this mortal life, we can take a free ride. All we have to do is desire it.
I took my camera, and all around me, the Orbs… just like the stars… were holding the space.
